Become a Member

We welcome new members to Edinburgh Fencing Club, no matter their fencing level, their age, or the weapon they fence.

All fencers are required to sign-in at the start of each session.

Club fencers need to provide their own basic fencing kit including glove, mask and breeches. We expect new fencers to build up to a full kit as soons as possible; meanwhile there is a limited selection of kit available to borrow via a deposit scheme. For full details on EFC kit requirements please see Fencing Kit.

Membership Benefits

Join the club’s sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays according to your fencing level and age.

  • Competitive fencers receive their own EFC tracksuit top.
  • A 10% discount and free shipping is offered on selected Allstar/Uhlmann fencing equipment as well as free shipping on Blades Brand equipment when placing an order through our Armourer Martin Buckley.
  • The club has a limited amount of fencing kit available for fencers to borrow at no extra cost (deposit scheme) while they build up their own kit.

Please note, due to restrictions during the current Coronavirus Pandemic, the following arrangement is put on hold:
As part of a training exchange arrangement with Salle Holyrood EFC fencers are free to train at Salle Holyrood’s open session on Mondays from 7pm, while Salle Holyrood members are welcome during EFC’s Tuesday open sessions.

Membership Fees

EFC suspended their annual membership for all fencers for as long as we can’t operate on a normal training schedule. Instead we offers pay-as-you-go or block bookings for the few sessions we can currently run, restricted by the Scottish Fencing guidelines, and Edinburgh Leisure’s let of St. Thomas’ of Aquin’s gym hall.

Edinburgh Fencing Club membership is annual and fees are due monthly in advance.

  • Standard rate: £40 per month by standing order
  • Concession rate: £30 per month by standing order (children U18, students and unwaged)
  • EUFC Members rate: £25 per month by standing order (only full member of Edinburgh University Fencing Club EUFC qualify)
  • Drop-in rate: £10 per session

Proof of entitlement to concession and EUFC member rates are required.

Standing orders are to be set up for the 1st of each month, or alternatively you may elect to pay the total annual fee in full. The Edinburgh Fencing Club membership year is 1st September to 31st August. There is strictly no provision to take payment breaks, and membership fees are non-refundable.

Edinburgh Fencing Club reserves the right to suspend membership for anyone skipping or making irregular monthly payments; resulting in a drop-in fee being charged for each visit to Edinburgh Fencing Club during the period where the payment shortfall has occurred. If payment issues are not resolved in a reasonable amount of time, Edinburgh Fencing Club membership may be terminated.

Any fencer not wishing to commit to annual membership is welcome to fence with us as a Drop-in.
